Looking for a new wheelset and found reserve wheelset 30 GR AL at 20%. Spec are 27mm inner width and 30.4mm external with. The company recommend tires from 30mm to 50mm width.
I have a cervelo Caledonia that max clearance is 34mm.
Yeah, tire profile will suffer a little, and you’ll get a better ride and performance with a little wider tire but 30 would work fine.

No, I wouldn’t run that combination.

If hookless you are probably violating ERTRO charts, you should at least look into it and if you have a tire in mind check the max rim width spec’d for that tire if it will be used tubeless.
It’s pushing pretty wide. It will certainly work but I’m not sure it’s optimal. 21-25 is good for 30-34mm outer width.

I wouldn’t. WTB has a helpful rim and tire fit chart online. The chart agrees with me.

If you have the frame clearance for 34 mm, why not go up to at least 32 mm? Having the tire slightly wider than rim also protects the rim from whatever debris you will inevitably run over.
I presume that you are not going narrow for aero reasons, because if this was about aero you would be looking at deeper rims.

I would not run gravel wheels with such slim tires. I run 32mm Rene Herse stampede pass tires on 21IR wheels and they work well on my road bike.

ETRTO says minimum 35mm. I wouldn’t go more than one or two mm beyond that, if at all

As other have said, it’s outside of ETRTO standards, and memory says the reserves are hookless? That would be a dangerous combo considering that hookless is why ETRTO revamped things in the last couple years.

I’ve used these charts quite a lot when I have similar questions.

They suggest you don’t run anything thinner than 40mm tyres on 27mm rims.
I run a gp5000x30 on[light bicycles WR rim.](https://www.lightbicycle.com/support/technology/measured-tire-width-charts)
