Anthony Panza has a video where he rides brakeless down a huge hill in Barcelona (I think) and he shows his Vans before and after a lot of braking and it doesn’t look all that bad. I’ll link the video in a second when I find it.
Started riding steel toe Walmart boots in like 2010 and never went back but that’s just me. Footjam life hack too.

Vans last a season at best if the seams don’t release sooner. I ride brakeless and I can’t preach Nike SBs enough. Look for anything with “CUPSOLE” like Nyjah’s or Force 58s.

I forget what they’re called, but the entries with the Michelin soles are really good in my experience.
Work boots
You should get a rear hub brake.
Learn to stop by stomping or dragging feet, sticking shoes into the tires will kill any shoe quickly. Pair of Vans lasts me all season.
