Just use a black sharpie if this is important for you. Nothing wrong with it…

Every time I service my clients’ bikes, I touch up any scratches on the rear derailleurs so I can tell at the next service whether the bike was dropped. For this, I use markers or paint in small bottles from automotive stores.
