My partner is looking for a road bike, as most of our daily riding is on pavement. Have been looking for a gently used road bike and came across this, what I believe is a 2014-2015 Madone 5.2 for $1,000. Owner states that it’s hardly been used and from everything I could see it appears that way. Partner has a new Gravel bike, and is happy with it when on gravel.

Would something like this be a better option than buying something like a Synapse 3 for $1,300 or a Domane AL Gen 4?

Better than my bike lol figure out what your partner values most in a bike, and go from there

  2. That’s a steep price for a bike that old. If you go for it, I would shoot for 600-700. If your partner already has a gravel bike they like, you should consider getting a second set of wheels with some fast road tires. Unless you’re trying to win road races I think a gravel bike with gp5000s will be plenty fast on pavement.

Looks like it’s at a storage unit, so pretty good chance it’s low miles. Try to suss out if it’s the original owner selling or locker auction type. If it is from an unpaid storage unit, be really really thorough on your inspection, there is a much higher chance it’s damaged, in my experience.

Does it include the original bontrager wheels as well?

Price seems reasonable, depending on your location and assuming it’s 100% ready to ride. Bring a pump so you can test it, since the tires are flat.

If you’re in N America, you may be able to bargain down, bikes in this price range are moving really slow right now. How long has the listing been up?
