We are getting a number of European designed cars here in Australia which have these cast one piece tow hitches available. This is quite different for what we are used to in Australia where we have either a slide in hitch and a detachable tow ball we can attach a bike rack to. What are the options with this European type hitch?

Perhaps try a European bicycle rack? Instructions are included. They are clamped onto the hitch.
The hitch is forged (or fabricated), not cast .
The typical rack has a ball coupling attachment, similar to a trailer, but there is a stop at the rear to prevent rotation in the vertical plane. Horizontal rotation is prevented by friction, so the ball must not be greased.

There are bike racks specifically designed for this type of hitch. They clamp on the tow ball and it works just fine.
Thule has good quality bike racks and it is used quite lot at least here where i live.

I’ve never seen a vehicle more in need of truck nuts
You’d hope the rack is not heavily used, otherwise there might be too much play when mounted. A newer rack will have better grip but might be harder to get on initially.
Seat post too low.
Thule racks. They are the best.
You get cheaper bolt on racks, but the towball size can vary and they don’t always fit great. Thule folding racks fit on any size and and also can go in the boot of your car
I should call him.
I’ve got two clamp-on racks. They are ‘scissor shaped’ The fit over the towball and a push bar opens the ‘scissors’ and compresses the clamp around the ball. A notch stops rotation. Incredibley quick easy and secure
