I’m a college student looking for a bike on FB marketplace to ride on campus (to classes) and sometimes off campus (to shops, food, etc) and know nothing about bikes. My bank account also reflects my college student status – so I’m looking for the cheapest thing I can get. Here are a few that I found.. any suggestions? (Note: the huffy bike comes with a free bike tool kit, if that helps)

  1. None of these bikes are good, but they might work for ya. I’d suggest looking for bikes without a front suspension. Cheap suspension is generally awful.

  2. I took a Quick Look at your profile, and it looks like you might be at University of Maryland, which, it appears, has a bike shop – https://recwell.umd.edu/programs-activities/adventure-program/bike-shop. I say this because cyclists in your area are almost certainly going to have more useful info for you than this sub. They might be able to direct you to resources like bike coops or programs that can help folks with limited resources get on bikes.

  3. To answer your question directly, the red Mongoose looks the best of what you shared. Tires degrade over time and they’ll easily run $50 so that’s worth a lot. Plus the wheels and drivetrain all look free of rust/wear which indicates inside storage and minimal riding. I can’t imagine finding a better option for $50
