This is my firstpost on Reddit. I joined because of the interesting bikes I keep seeing on this
x/biking thread or group or whatever it is called. I thought I would add a recent build that you will either love or hate, I don't care because I like it which seems to be the point anyway.

This was a frame, seatpost, seatpost collar and fork when I picked it up. It had a nice Judy XC with yellow decals, which is what these bikes came with. It was in good shape but likely needed a damper rebuild and stiffer springs. I had a MarzocchI Bomber 2001 which is a nice air oil fork. Yes it is slightly taller, but not much. I am using a Tektro mechanical disc brake that I had around. The front wheel is a piece that I picked up at the local used bike shop it has a nice Hope sealed bearing hub.

Since I had no other parts I decided to try out some Amazon items. A purple anodized single cog and spacers went onto a mid 90s vintage Richey rear wheel with a thin style gold label Deore hub. I added a flat roller chain tensioner. I installed a 170mm extenal bearing crankset with an oval chainring. Yes I love my non round chainrings. I used some big green anodized pedals from Amazon as I wanted green and wasn't going to pay the $100 that the LBS gets for them. These are great, but I had to put in all the traction pins myself. This took about half the time it took to build this bike to be honest.

The rear brake is an Amazon CNC vbrake. It works as well as the Shimano ones that I usually purchase. The levers are Cane Creek V drop bar levers which work great. The bars are Salsa Short and Shallow which work great with a shorter than stock stem that I bought used. The tires are from the free box outside the bike shop. The saddle is a used item from the same shop. The frame did come with the seatpost which is the original Richey, it is a great post. The original collar was still on the frame with and had an old quick release binder that worked fine but looked out of place. I added a purple quick release instead with some Vbrake cancave/convex washers under each end to account for the shape of the collar which is supposed to have a counter bored Allen bolt, not a quick release.

I also installed a sealed bearing headset as well.
I put this together in a few hours. It rides great and is fairly light. The Bomber air fork is nice as I have it dialed in just right and can ride it hard without pogoing like the stock medium spring Judy would have.

I did pick up a silver Blackburn Mountain Rack which I will add once I find the right clamp for the top mount. These Stumpjumer frames have no eyelets for the rack to attach to so a clamp is needed to attach to the crossmember between the seat stays.

I am very happy with how this bike rides and expect to put many miles on it.

  1. It’s weird, love it.

Been looking for wire aluminum pedals. Mind sharing the link even though the pins sound annoying
