After a month or so of sourcing parts, buying new wheels, shifters, tyres, bars, a broken canti stud, DIY fix… I cleaned up and took a closer look at the chainstay I realised there's a small hole caused by what appears to be tyre rub and rust.

Lesson learned! Always do a thorough check over before buying second hand.

Ah well. Haven't decided whether to scrap it/ repurpose it or have a try at repairing it yet. Any ideas welcome.

  1. Nice frame. Reynolds 531 if I see correctly and fully British made, built around the corner from the Reynolds company, too (iirc). If it fits you, keep it. That hole should be easy to close with a little weld or braze-on, material is easy to find out (531 metal combination) so welder knows how to work, and think 531 wasn’t heat treated so should be even easier.

It’s just not junk, but some nice vintage (human) vibes coming from that frame…

Smallest welding rod you can get at the local hardware store and jumper cables on a battery 🤣
