I’ve been hiding this bike at my neighbors, finally went to go get it today and tried to ride it home. The chain/peddles kept slipping and I’m not sure what is wrong
Move the left shifter until it doesn’t touch the chain anymore

There is rarely anything wrong with the chain.

If the chain keeps falling off the smallest or largest the front chainrings (and not towards the middle chainring), it means that the limit screws on the derailleur are set incorrectly or not set at all. These screws control how far the derailleur (shifter thing) goes up and down.
It should have been set correctly when the bike was assembled at the store, but many department stores often half-ass it.
If it keeps doing so, I would take it to a local bike shop. If they didn’t bother to set something so simple correctly, I wouldn’t be surprised if other things were also skipped. It shouldn’t take them long, and if they should not charge more than $50 given the bike is new. I wouldn’t be surprised if you acted nice and told them it was a gift if they would hook you up for a lot less.
Also, whoever said to just google it is a clown. Without knowing terminology or exactly what’s wrong, googling / asking AI can lead just lead down to a long and potentially incorrect rabbit hole. Questions like this is what Reddit is great for. Now, if you wish, you can google “how to check and set limit screws on a front derailleur” and go from there.
