Hello, I’m a beginner and I bought a second-hand Brompton for the first time today.
I understand that Bromptons are prone to developing internal rust, but the one I purchased seems a bit worse than usual.
Would this level of rust be considered acceptable?
I’m planning to spray a rust remover, scrub it off with a brush, and then apply AS360 Fluid Film for protection.
Would that be an appropriate approach?

Thats 100% only cosmetic. Unless its left in water, not much happens. Put some framesaver in it if it relaxes you but dont worry. It wont break down because of this. Maybe i 30 years or so..
Just go with fluid film. The remover doesnt so much and fluid film basically stops the rust progression.
Bike mechanic for 12 years, have seen 2-3 bikes actually destroyed from rust. Out of maybe 10.000 bikes… Not counting those left prolonged in water.
It kinda depends on how and where the bike has been stored. I’ve seen others that look like this. Fluid film or SP-400 should work fine once you clean it up if that’s what you plan on doing. The rust is there but it doesn’t look deep.
It’s surface rust your fine just get some inhibitor spray in there.
