I have a giant defy advanced 2. The wheel is giant tubeless ready the tyre is giant gavia fondo 2 tubeless 700x32c. I intend to change to inner tube setup of 28c

Can I just use a smaller inner tube size (28c) and fit into this tyre without having to change to another one? (And maybe kinda stupid qn) Will my ride feel like I’m riding on 28c or 32c?

Or do I have to buy another tyre instead to fill like I’m riding on 28c. (interested in Continental GP5000 28c)

  1. Bruh….your tire is not going to magically change its physical size by you putting in a “28c” inner tube.

If you use an inner tube that’s too small that’s not intended to work with a 32c tire, you’ll still be able to inflate the tire and get the necessary psi, however the tube will be more prone to failure.

Additionally, what is your fixation with 28c? Having the exact same tires in 32c and 28c will have an incredibly minimal change in feel, however switching from Fondo2 to GP5000 will be a more significant change, even with the GP5000s being 32c.

Inner tubes generally have a range of tyre sizes they can be used with, how big that range is depends on the material, with standard butyl tubes having huge ranges, like 25mm-45mm sometimes.

Why on earth would you want to go narrower? Unless you’re racing there’s no excuse for not using the widest tyres your frame can handle

4mm difference? you’re fine. tubes are super stretchy. for our MTBs, we can even use 26in tubes on our 29ers, but only for emergencies.
