I had been thinking of buying my first BMX as an adult lately. Haven’t been on any bike in probably 25+ years.
So a couple weeks ago I asked the question, “can you comfortably use a 20” wheel bmx as a cruiser and limited day to day transportation”? Or I guess more specifically, is sitting and pedaling for a 2-3 miles a nightmare or doable?
I got some mixed responses, some people saying not a chance and just get a bigger bike, while others said it’s not too bad for reasonable distances around town.
Well a sale popped up on this normally $600 Fit TRL XL with 21” TT, $250 bucks plus another $25 coupon. I figured why not.
So how does it feel to cruise and use a bike with 20” wheels as transportation?
Well I had to buy a fat seat, but other than that it’s really not bad. I can do 45-60 minute rides on it no problem. I stand some, when my ass gets sore, but mostly I’m seated and pedaling. The seat post the bike came with is real long so obviously I raised it way up – but that and then new seat is all I needed.
Would I want to ride 20+ miles? Nah probably not. But 5 miles or less is not a problem at all. Would a larger bike be better? Sure but where’s the fun in that? This is the type of bike I wanted.

you can always get a bigger sprocket for more top speeds
Faction’s 22” wheel Amero is the best ‘cruiser’ that you can freestyle n trail.
Looks pretty sweet!
Congrats 😁
Something maybe to keep in mind is if you go with a freecoaster you may (only at first too) be annoyed by the delay to engage in pedaling on the freecoaster vs a cassette which is instant.
