I know this has been talked about in bits and pieces throughout the various discussions on this page, but what is everyone's go-to modification for old road racing specific bikes. Most of my bikes have been 70s and 80s sports-tourers. Usually mid-level Bikes with road geometry, but given eyelets and other braze-ons for versatility (racks/mudgFrankenstein.
This Daccordi is my first actual road bike. Its roadie dimensions only give clearance for up to 700x28c tires (and it barely fits/wheels have to be trued often). I am intent on keeping this bike my exercise/sporty whip (I have a ton of other projects to tinker with and that perform specific duties) but I am far from being a spandex jock and would like to xbike this thing without it loosing it's specific function. I'm just curious what others have experimented with, on this style of bike. I feel like old Road bikes are stuck between full on vintage restoration (if it's of a great pedigree), 650b converted resto-mod, or frankenbike.

Personally I think the biggest, most impactful thing you can do to make this more xbikey is a 650b swap with bigger tires. Even if you only fit 35-38c tires, that dramatically opens up the surfaces you can comfortably ride. I have an 80s road bike that I have 700x38s on, and I ride it everywhere on all road/gravel surfaces.
Looks great as it is
