Recently went to do some much needed maintenance and upgrades. I made a new wheel set and bought all new components. Went to get my headset swapped and realized there is a crack in frame. Initially I thought it was just a scratch, but we could see a gap. I am going to have a friend weld it, but obviously I won’t want to be rough on that bike. So I am looking to get a frame and didn’t realize how scarce they were. My friend at the bike shop couldn’t even find frames on her distributor sites. I know a few are coming back next year but I’d like to find one sooner than later. I’m not super picky and I don’t want to spend too much, but I also am willing to to spend for quality.

I’m 5’11ā€ and I was riding a 56cm Mercier WT. But I am open to try 54cm or 55cm. I would like similar geometry and as long it could mean my components I bought aren’t useless I’m happy.

Looking for any advice or anyone looking to sell a frame. Worst case scenario I just buy a new Mercier wt and break it down.

I’d mig that right up personally… drill both ends weld it shut and plate over it. Back and better.

  2. On the size piece of it I would absolutely try a 55 or 54 in your next frame. I am the same height and raced a 56 on road for years. When I raced track I dropped to a 54 and all my fixed builds have felt better for me at 54. One suggestion to think about is trying to find a titanium frame. You could try and barter for something like a Moots or look into an old Litespeed Blade frame. Those things are indestructible in my experience.

I broke a frame in that same spot. I rewelded it and rode it for another couple years until I threw it in the trash. Was moving and needed to downsize a lot.
