Heyyy, so I get my bike serviced semi regularly and one thing that makes me do that is my breaks. After a servicing they’re perfect, but within a month or so they’re just too damp or soft, I try tune them but can never get it to how the shop does it.

What should I upgrade on my bike to improve the quality of the breaks? Is it levers, or cables, or housing ect…

I ride about 60miles per week if that helps :)))

Thank you in advance!

  1. Take a break whenever you feel you need to 🙂
What kind of brakes are they, cantilevers? Do you have a photo of them?

    Edit: they’re v-brakes I see.

you’re supposed to use the barrel adjusters to tighten the brake cable tension

some people replace their cables every year or two if they ride every day. lots of salty winter + hills

Jagwire housing and cables are nice, I could feel the difference. Kool Stop brake shoes are good

Shimano levers have good feel, also Diacompes with return springs are good and well priced

are you sure you have the right brake lever for the cable pull? i’ve also had some weird long plasticy levers that just plain sucked regardless of what i did. i really like v brake levers by avid for my bikes with v brakes on it

  4. I can help:  it’s spelled “brakes.”  Also “etc.”

BTW quit trying to replace parts (that’s what the LBS did, if it needed to happen) and just tighten your brake cables.
