  1. I don’t have those bars, but I use a variety of bars with backsweep on my bikes. They put my wrists in a more ergonomic position than flat bars. Mind you I am not trying to restore a bike to period correct spec.

I’m a devotee of swept bars, but will fully admit that they don’t look great. Thankfully, I’m lot a devotee of aesthetics.

  3. IMO the reason it looks odd is because the stem is so long. I realize that’s unfortunate because it’s paint matched (I’m dealing with this too on a current build). Might want to try some actual beach cruiser bars (Wald 898) to sweep back far enough to offset the stem length. Or just swap a shorter stem to see if that helps the look.

Imo swept bars are not comfortable unless you have a super upright position. The angle might be more ergonomic for your wrists but I find that they actually feel worse if you have to put more weight on them. With a long 90s mtb stem, narrow flat bars are less awkward for me, but I’d rather get a shorter stem with more rise to give me an upright position and then put on wide and swept bars.

  5. I have a very similar set of handlebars I am putting on my 1994 Trek 930. They are the “tumbleweed persuader bar”. This build is supposed to be an “adventure build, so I guess I’ll see what I think.

  6. I use Satori Noir bars, pretty similar to yours, and I like them a lot, but they are a bit less precise than flat bars when doing fiddly stuff. Also I’ve shortened them so I could fit my bike into the lift.

Idk man I use a super similar setup on two of my bikes and it’s wicked comfy, makes wheelies way easier, and I feel way way more comfortable on tech with less weight over the front

  8. Man I have similar bars I’ve been thinking of adding to my 1988 stumpjumper but I think I just don’t want to corrupt that old geometry. In theory it should feel better but there’s an aesthetic issue tied to it. You’ve done such a great job preserving this bike with some light restomod touches but maybe you’re thinking the comfy position is a bridge too far? I’m clearly projecting here lol. Keep us posted! This bike of yours is super sweet, I love seeing it pop up in my feed.

I’ve got similar bars on a few bikes. I like the back sweep, it’s comfortable to me. And it moves the bar back so I can reduce how stretched out I am on older bikes with super long stems (like yours)
