      I worked for Conrail in the 70's as a track laborer, driving spikes into RR ties. Them ties were hard a rocks. It paid really well for the times $6- an hour, ten hour days.

      Sherman heated the tracks of the Confederacy and twisted them around telegraph poles to make both communication and movements of troops and materials impossible. There was a nickname for them but I forgot what it was called. I'm sure you can googolplex it.

      They lost and also created more havoc to their country
      This slowed down considerably the reconstruction of Germany
      On rural areas small towns and cities
      I have lived in Germany from 7 to 12 years old back in the early 60s
      Germans are very proud and hard working people

      Pretty impressive machinery! Those Germans had a pretty hard time at the end of the war to come up with equipment to destroy railroads.

      The Germans did this all across Ukraine in World War Two. They were defeated in Ukraine by the Ukrainians as Churchill wrote losing 15.7 million people all the other 14 Soviet republics lost a total of 7.3 million people among them all together germany was defeated in Ukraine by Ukrainians

      German overengineering at it's best! As usual, Russians did it simpler and smarter: introducing the wider rails format. And also they didn't destroy the whole road – just bridges and a few more random places was enough.
