Hey folks I’m riding a Decathlon Riverside Touring 920 with a SRAM Rival 1×11 drivetrain and a 32T front.
Current cassette is 11–42.

My problem: on long, loaded climbs with bags/bikepacking gear, the current range just feels too tall and I’m struggling. I’m thinking about options to gain easier climbing without going full 2×.

Some perhaps too specific questions:

  1. Has anyone ever run a cassette up to 11–50 (or similar large range) with a SRAM Rival 1×11 setup?

  2. What combo did you use (brand/model cassette, chain, derailleur adjustment) and how reliable was it?

  3. Did you need any modifications (B-screw adjustment, derailleur hanger alignment, longer cage, etc.)?

  4. How were the shift quality and chain tension — especially when loaded and under climbing torque?

Anyone with I need real experience, not speculation. The goal is to be able to climb loaded without running out of easy gear — and I want to know whether this combo will actually run before I invest. Thanks!

Biketax shot included 🙂 cheers

  1. No.  Its rated for 42t cassette.
You can push it past to 46t, ive done on a couple bikes with success but be warned its beyond srams spec. Ymmv.

32:46 is a crazy low gear.  If you bottom out that, you are better off walking/pushing, we all been there.

What you can do is get a 12s shifter cog replacement to make it 12s eagle compatible, then get an eagle rd and cassette and chain.   Saves you on replacing expensive shifters.  https://ratiotechnology.com/product-category/upgrade-kits/

  2. Get the Ratio Technology cage for this and you can run up to a 52t cassette. I’m running a rival rear mech, this cage, and a Shimano 11-51 11speed cassette. Works great.
