I guess dirt is making a lot of noise in there somewhere.. So i want to maintain everything… I removed the axle and i will clean the bearings and grease them again as much as i can but i would like to clean the freehub as well. But i just cant get it off. I dont know the brand but its probably shimano or the cheapest stuff there is… Or do i have to remove the break disk to get it off? What should i do… Is thid normal?

  1. Give it a good clean out then you’ll be able to see some splines inside. You’ll then need a large hex key (usually larger than comes with a standard set). It literally just unscrews or has a bolt holding it on. What brand is the hub?

I’d also question if it’s worth removing it. We normally only remove them to replace. There might be a part number on the freehub body somewhere.

Alternatively give it a good blast out with a spray oil and drip some heavy oil into the freehub body.

But yes, remove your rotor now before it gets covered in grease and oil!
