Howdy folks. Heading into my first winter of any real/consistent winter biking. I'm looking for any advice, tips, tricks folks can offer!

I know how to dress generally, I work outside most of the winter. Any specific wearables that are great I'd be open to hearing about though!

We get a lot of snow and a lot of cold where I'm at. Also lots of salty roads. While I bought Lenny (pictured, this is from before we got a foot of snow) to ride, it does have pretty sick paint and is in generally good shape, so I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible. Any tricks for that? Maintenance? Should I be getting fenders?

I do have a pair of Ice Spikers off a parts bike that I'm planning to use, so should be covered as far as tires!

Thanks in advance 🙂

  1. My winter bike has fenders and studded tires, and I use pogies to keep the wind off my hands. I’m not sure what temperatures or wind you deal with, but it gets pretty cold and windy where I am. For paint and chain maintenance, just wipe off any snow or moisture once you’re in a warm place. Dry and lube the chain regularly as well.

  2. I always recommend bar mitts or ‘ pogies’ and a good neck gator. I use the Wolftooth pogies and the Buff brand wool gators. There are cheaper options.
