  1. no, you’re better off saving up some more money and buying a bike that’s really made for trails. this is more of a cruiser for streets/bike paths. the lowest end trek marlin will cost you $629 and be leaps and bounds better than this on the trials.

  2. Well you’d need a new saddle too. If it needs a tuneup then it’s a 50 dollar bike at most. You’re either spending the time to go over everything yourself or a shop. It’s also not suitable for any serious mountain biking. I’d pass.

    Not sure where you’re at but there’s better deals to be had near me (northeast US).. also not trying to be a jerk, most that ride or even dabble in mountain biking wouldn’t consider this a “real” mtb.. but a decent modern mtb will cost much more than this.. there’s nothing wrong with retro hard tails though, I have quite a few and enjoy riding them on my local trails, but in that category for this price range there are better ones out there
