for today’s video I’d like to ask a question how big is the problem of cyclist jumping red lights there’s an obvious risk to pedestrians and not many people talk about the effect that it would have on a motorist if that said motorist was to hit a cyclist but realistically a cyclist going through a red light at this speed is low risk but where do we draw the line if I went through the red light in my car I could make sure it was safe also and my final point is this would you prefer the police to pull a cyclist or a motorist for jumping a red light I know what my choice would be

Should be the same,
Both
Good to see the police doing there job, nothing, NOT.
If cyclists wish to be treated as vehicles on the road, they should act like any other vehicle.
Police should have pulled the cyclist and given him a ticket. It's not safe at all 😡
I could push the button wait for a minute looking at an empty road while the lights run through their sequence then cycle across when the green cycle shows. If they had a clear view of an empty road would drivers wait at a red light? Pedestrians don't wait at crossings either if the road is empty.
Police should stop anyone breaking the highway code, we all share it, we should all follow it,
If a cyclist fails to stop at a red light, they should be forced to take some form of cycling proficiency, like 9yr olds have to at school, and then receive a £250 fine.
There’s a much bigger issue by leaving it unchecked. 1) It sends a signal to the cyclist that jumping a red light is ok, that red lights don’t apply to them. Right in front of police. 2) It signals to others that this is acceptable behaviour so if they are in the same position they might also consider doing it.
It’s a red light for a reason and only emergency vehicles are exempt from going through them. Even if the cyclist doesn’t see the potential danger, others including the police have a duty of care.
Pull both as they have broken the law
By Cambridge Heath Station, just south of Hackney, so the cyclist could easily not be conversant with the road rules, and/or highway code. Of course ignorance of the law is no defence. Police should stop him and make him aware of the law.
In front of a police car… Seriously… Cyclists are dangerous in London, to themselves, other road user's and pedestrians.
No. No drawing a line and saying minimum risk. All road user's who run a red light should be stopped. I am primarily a cyclist. Commute and race bikes. I've worked in two front line emergency services, I've driven Hgvs, lgvs and everything in between. There is no excuse for that cyclists going through a red light with traffic moving in the other direction
Both
I think. Everyone would like the police to just properly do their job. That means enforcing the actual laws instead of ignoring it because it’s extra work and not doing be like pulling over people because of the color of the car or issuing tickets over tweets.
A few years ago my car got hit by a driver who jumped a red light. He wrote his car off, my car took 5 weeks to get repaired (badly), I had a badly stained right ankle (twisted from the impact while hard down on the brake). He got a training course by the Police. I thought that was an insult, he should have been prosecuted, but he gave the Police a sob story.
I’d say that I’d like the police to pull BOTH the cyclist and the motorist as it’s the same offence, isn’t it?
The copper was probably texting on his phone and didn't see anything.
I know where this is , it’s Cambridge Heath Rd London . Cycling here is anarchy on two wheels, they do as they like, and the police do nothing.
They probably don't give a F
Stop both of these.
Why didn't the blue lights go on?
Cyclist don't understand the rules if any.
Red lights are to cyclists, what speed limits are to motorists. I'm not condoning either.
Choice???
Both should be pulled over
What is the point of laws that are not enforced? Lack of enforcement of specific laws (jumping red lights, no lights between sunset and sunrise, cycling on the wrong side of the road etc) surely leads to a lack of respect for all laws. Would it not be possible for the police to occasionally set aside a unit to catch red light jumpers and issue a fixed penalty notice?
The big problem is the self entitlement
Did they have a word round the corner with the cyclist? Dor information, until certain driving test is passed, the Police car cant croos the stop line or use blues.
The German automobile club performed a study in five of Germany’s biggest cities finding that only 1.2% of every cyclist crosses at a red light which is comparable to other road users.
If a motorist goes across on green and hits the cyclist going across on red who is liable to pay compensation? That's right, the motorist. They are the on with insurance.
I see them jumping red lights all the time in my local town (Stratford-upon-Avon). Waiting for the bus at the bottom of Bridge Street, or I will be walking in that direction either down Warwick Road or from Bridgefoot, and there are 11 sets of lights there, and crossing as a pedestrian you sometimes put your life at risk as the younger riders blast through, and also down the pavements to avoid the one way direction of the road system. The other problem is electric scooters. They are everywhere.
All well and done but one day that cyclist could be killed going through a red light and the bus/lorry/car/ambulance/police/fire driver will have to live with that for the rest of their lives ! It would not be fair ! How much time did that save him, he could have got off crossed the road and rejoined on the other side and peddled just a little bit quicker to make up the 20 seconds. He did it because he knew the police wouldn’t pull him and if they did wouldn’t do anything ! They don’t arrest shoplifters never mind cyclists ! If they confiscated bikes for going through a red light that might stop them doing it twice !
In France and Belgium cyclists are allowed to proceed on red with caution, on the condition they need to give way to vehicles that have green light. They did trials before changing the law and found that it had no impact on road safety. That's your answer.
How to get views and clicks on YouTube LOL
A 100kg mass pottling at 5mph vs a 1tonn+ going at how many mph?
Last time I checked, red means STOP, for both cars and bikes. No exceptions.
Ruddy stupids jump red lights.
I've sat a lights in london, and waited for 3 loops (ie every other lane had gone through at least twice, including the pedestrians) of the system before the light for me went to green !
It is extremely annoying, and at some point I would have become sufficiently annoyed to decide that my light was simply not working correctly, and 'passed through the junction when safe' ~ which is allowed for in the highway code !
I admit the above situation is maybe a bit specific, but I pass this set of lights regularly, and this always seems to happen. Worse is the fact I know these lights well enough that I can 'sprint' to them to get through, and occasionally do, although it is more common for me to 'just slow right down and take my time' because I know where I need to be to get through them at a sprint. To then arrive and regularly have to wait for 2 or more 'loops' of the lights before I can go is highly annoying. Oddly I have noticed that when an ebike arrives next to me, the lights change almost immdiately, so there is clearly 'something up' with the sensor.
Had it been a tweet against a child murderer though…
I think it's important to understand that there is running the light (over the stop line) and running the junction.
The stoppable offence is running the light, which noone cares about unfortunately.
Cars run the light all the time, bicycles run the junction all the time.
At the point the car has run the stop line (or advanced stop line) they have points and a fine. And in theory so do the bicycles.
But with running the junction the bicycle is a lot less likely to cause a major accident than a car.
How about BOTH!! And not just jumping the red but running them at speed while everyone else is stopped.
I think police should pull both drivers and cyclists over. The number of times I have crossed the road on a green cross man or I have ridden my bike across a green signal and a cyclist comes speeding through without any due care or attention. And what is the reason for a cyclist jumping red, they could of been in a robbery trying to get away.
At least put your siren on and shout at the idiot
This is common in London. Sometimes even the police commit these crimes.
They could have been PCSO'S. They also use marked police cars for transport but can not do anything traffic related.
As a car driver and motorcyclist i simply would not have had the gall to pedal pest the copper though a red light, what sort of person does that .
I'd say the issue is smaller than the issue of drivers jumping red lights, often when drivers do it they're doing it at at 40mph to get through faster. A cyclist going through a red light is on the same level as a pedestrian crossing the road without waiting for the green man…if they're going carefully and at a low speed then the danger to anyone is miniscule. That said, the police should have spoken to this one further on because to jump the light in front of them shows a total lack of awareness!
Thry cross the 6 lanes of Scotland road at this speed causing emergency stops and dangerous swerves. I was amazed the first time I saw this happening. As you can imagine there was multiple near accidents, the scariest ones were cars and artics almost tangling, all due to avoiding this cyclist.
Police incompetence and inconsistency at its finest
Possibly foreign. In some countries, this manoeuvre is legal. Here it is illegal, as you can see by the absolute carnage caused.
Yes, the police should've acted. I wonder what the reason was for them not doing so.
