Curious if anyone knows more about this bike like the year or specs. Looking to take it over from my dad he hasn’t used it in forever and can’t remember when exactly he got it but I’ve never seen him ride a bike in my entire life and I’m in my 30s so I’m assuming this thing is from the 90s or earlier? Having difficulty finding the same one online with the cursive “CrossRoads”, I just want to know what to search ij order to learn more about it and hoping someone here might know more about it themselves. Still trying to figure out what’s original on it not sure about the bars or the seat/pole. The bike is super heavy but seems like that’s what this sub is all about? Been cycling all my life but new to the related subreddit communities so just looking for any insight from someone who might know more about this bike or what it’s best used for! I’m just a standard commuter as far as what I’d need to use it for. Cheers

  1. I don’t know if xbiking is ‘about’ heavy bikes. I just think xbiking don’t care if our free, comfortable bikes are heavy.

Google “specialized crossroads”, scroll down, and click on links that look like they would be helpful/what you’re looking for.

  2. This was called a hybrid bike back when it was made. Wide (for the time) 700c tires and flat bars like a MTB. It was designed for commuting and general recreational riding, the idea being it was mainly for the road but could handle light off road duty like dirt roads. Basically the precursor to modern gravel bikes, and these frames are popular on here for gravel bike builds.

You could reduce the weight with modern components or just replace what needs replacing (at least tires and brake pads) and ride it. Weight doesn’t matter much for an around-town bike.
