Hi everyone,

I am planning a semi-vintage style build most likely based on a Crust Malocchio frame. The bike will run 9 or 10 speed with downtube shifters. I have a few months to choose the right crankset, so I am trying to find something that matches the look and still works well for everyday riding.

Requirements:

  • Silver finish
  • Minimum 50/34 compatibility
  • 110 BCD preferred
  • Not too modern in appearance
  • Should ideally be available in the EU

Here are the cranksets I have found so far:

BETD Middleburn RO2 Road X-Type

Notes: Double Road Spider
Price: 330 EUR
Pros: 24 mm Hollowtech, spider options
Cons: Price

Dixna La

Price: about 250 EUR

Specialites T.A. Carmina

Pros: Classic look, JIS taper
Cons: Square taper, ISO taper

Velo Orange Grand Cru Drillium 110 Fluted Double Crankset

Do you have experience with any of these cranksets? Are there other silver options that suit this semi-vintage build?

  1. I’d go Middleburn, I ran then back in the octa link (I think that was the BB) days. I was really close to getting some for my current bike but eventually went for some xt as much cheaper.

  2. flower-power-123 on

I have a set of those stronglights. The chain falls off. Looking over the options It looks to me like the only one that fits the vintage thing you are going for is the Vélo Orange. Sorry about the square taper. It is period correct.
