I had the same thing with a cheaper set of bars. Tried every trick in the book and kept tightening a little more and a little more until they took the shape of the stem. Bought higher quality bars and haven’t had a single issue.

If you’ve had it happen a few times the bars themselves can get squished into a narrower tube size.
Also you have to make sure the gap is super even by tightening down in a pattern. Number the bolts in your head 1-4 in a circle then tighten evens first then odds
Like. 2, 4 ,1,3… on repeat, round and round, In circles, a little bit at a time.

  3. Old/mid school solution: put a penny between the stem and the bars and tighten evenly like hell.

  4. Are your bolts tightened evenly in a cross pattern? Are the gaps even on all sides? If not, this is what often causes the bars to slip.

I’m having the exact same issue. I bought a brand new Animal stem and now my bars slip when I bunny hop. I scratched of all the paint on the connecting surfaces on the stem and scored in some horizontal lines. It helped a lot but it still moves after a few hops. To be totally honest, it’s dampened my enthusiasm for riding. I’m thinking as a last ditch effort, I will buy new bars. But I’ll be gutted if I spend more money and it still doesn’t help.
