Riding downhill the front popped, no nail, less than 90 PSI. Maybe 50F outside. It and the tire were brand new. So was the rim tape. The rear I posted earlier is still in good shape.

I Uber so I ride all day. I'm thinking about buying a pair of folding GP5000 and another set of these tubes because on time delivery is important to me and I need the extra watts but two days is too expensive. I could stomach once a month. These are Tubelito Road I believe. My air pump liked them and they held air great so I want to like them but what do you think?

Doesn’t Tubolito have some warranty you can redeem? To be honest this seems really weird given the conditions

  2. That looks more like the tyre went more than the tube. Looks like the try went over some glass maybe, but more like some Sharpe metal.

  3. Not a tube failure, that tyre has been cut due to running over something sharp. I would consider sacrificing a few Watts for something with a tougher carcass in your position. If you want wet grip the GP5000 AS are good and not much slower than the regular GP5000. Gatorskins are even tougher, but wet grip isn’t great.

That’s definitely not the tube’s fault. You probably ran over something sharp or the tyre was faulty or got damaged some other way.

Btw: The spoke nipple in the second photo looks pretty corroded (unless that white stuff is something other than aluminium oxide). Prepare for some broken spoke nipples. Better use brass nipples.

This is an e bike ? Or pedal

    What city out of curiosity

It’s def hard to watch the road for garbage while watching for cars but I have had to train myself more to do that. And just go slower if too much traffic or too much road garbage to see clearly

  7. If you are an Uber cyclist, there might be a balance between saving a few seconds with fast tyres, against the increased risk of puncturing and not delivering at all? Schwalbe marathons are extremely resiliant, but slower than GP5000s.

Hmm you need to take that into a specialized shop for warranty. I Rand armadillo’s for ages and would smash broken bottle with my bike wheel there were so resistant to cuts. But most here agree that is a slash from the outside not a burst from inside.

The tube is not at fault here. The tire failed (in rather spectacular fashion, I might add.)

All the tube does is provide an airtight chamber. Resisting the internal pressure is the job of the tire and rim. If either of those fail, the tube will rupture.

  10. Your tire was sliced through somehow. Your inner tube ruptured after tire’s casing was compromised.

  11. What size tires are these? Tough to tell from the pictures but they look wide enough that 90psi seems way too high to me.

And as far as GP5000s go.. they’re great tires but absolutely not the right choice for your line of work. If you’re already having problems with flats and blowouts on armadillos then you’ll be getting a flat every day on GPs. They have relatively no puncture resistance. Sure they might be fast, but it doesn’t matter how fast your tires are if they’re flat and you’re stuck on the side of the road. You want maximum puncture resistance even if it sacrifices some watts.

As others have mentioned I’d recommend butyl tubes and marathon pros. You’ll really struggle to get a flat on those.

I thought this was some bcj material, but judging from OP’s replies it’s serious. I don’t know how you can point right at that giant gash in the tire and conclude this was a tube failure. My rational mind cannot compute that leap.

  13. Your tire failed, not the tube. However, in my experience TPU tubes don’t like stiff tires, cheap nylon rim strips, or being re used. When they fail, they tend to either blow out fast (dangerous), or just leak at a seam or valve (annoying). Consider TPU tubes a great way to save some watts on your carbon road bike with carbon rims that you ride on fast paced group rides or races on good roads. I genuinely think your idea to get GP5000 tires isn’t terrible if you can avoid debris on the road well enough. If not, get some Pirelli Cinturato tires they are a high performance training tire. Just run butyl tubes, they aren’t perfect, but they often survive in the form of a slow enough leak to keep you safe or even keep you moving. They’re repairable, reusable, and inexpensive.
