That’s shockingly high, but I guess a single health event can cost the system tens of thousands of dollars, even at non-US prices.
I’m trying to use myself as an example because I credit bike commuting with turning my fitness around… From not really doing much outside of a couple of workouts a month to about 45-60km a week. Am I really saving society like $60 a week by not having a heart attack at 55? Honestly, if it costs me a few days in the hospital and a few months of disability, yeah probably.
