Are the treads inside tube knackered?
If you have a wrench and some body strength you will get that back in.
Time for a refurb..

I think that the easiest way to fix it would be remove the wheel, and remove the fork bottom. You can find instructions on line. I believe it is just two bolts coming up from the bottom. That will remove the tension from the spring, so you can screw that plug back in and tighten it.
