I did, was a pain in the ass to do because they were oval. But I think it’s worth it. On the same wheels fixed for 4 years not a single issue

Anything that spreads the load over a larger area is a good thing, carbon or alloy.

If the rims include them, or the rim manufacturer says to use them, I do. If not, I don’t. It completely depends on how the rim was designed whether or not they’re necessary.
