So both of these bikes are on sale $1999 and $2,799…but those are probably the prices they should have been all along. Anyway i know this has been discussed before but doesn’t the SJ15 comp seem like a SIGNIFICANTLY better bike for the extra $800?

Also…I’ve noticed several sizes of both the 15alloy/15alloy comp sellout the last few days, so thinking i need to make my decision ASAP or I’ll be stuck with the full priced 2026 models.

  1. Idk about *significantly* better, but I would personally buy the Comp. Main thing that matters is the better suspension; brakes and drivetrain are nice, but not as big of an upgrade. Deore is pretty damn good these days, as are Shimano 4 piston brakes.

  2. Because Specialized have curated a really good base model for once, you are actually right in that the comp isn’t outright worth 800 more.

I mean from the base model, you are looking at a shock upgrade and arguably a brake upgrade to get to the general performance of the comp. You could get both for under 800 on BuySell. Or even just discounts tbh. MSRP you may run up against it but practically nobody buying ‘MSRP’ right now, cuz (gestures vaguely)

So yeah. Not only is the base model a cheaper place to start from, but it allows you to upgrade as you see fit with that 800. TO things maybe even beyond what the comp has.

The flip side is, the genie shock is supposed to be better for the frame with its linear design. But there have been mixed reactions on it regardless. Honestly see people ripping them off left and right.

And having SLX mech and TRP brakes out the box is a great buy, but at that point you’d almost be better off with the Status models, if you just want great parts out the box for a great price.

I think the alloy Stumpy is literally heavier than the Status 170. I could be wrong. But thanks to some extra features like an alloy swap box… Yeah it’s not a light bike. If you’re gonna ruck that thing up a fire road, may as well have more travel of the 170 for the weight (shrug)
