Recently decided I’d like to get into cycling. As a beginner, I’m interested in something good enough to grow with for several years. Allez seems like a safe option. The New Allez with Cues is $1599 retail. As a beginner is something like this used Allez sport a better buy? Looks like the 2025 sport with Tiagra is also $1599 ( marked down from $1800 on specialized website as the Tiagra is getting phased out?)

Any better recommendations for getting into the sport for $1000-$1500?

Much appreciated

  1. What is the drivetrain on the used one ?

I understand that Tiagra will be phase out, so the Cues is the best – unless the used bike is a Ultegra or 105 – but I’d try to negotiate to lower that Leicester a bit.

The bonus of getting new as a first time real bike is the fit that the LBS will give you – they might change the stem without charge or make other adjustments for free or little charge. They also will measure you to make sure you get the good size.
