Need some help with identifying the issue. Was cycling halfway when it became almost immediately increasingly hard to pedal. Eventually, I just could not pedal anymore (can imagine tightening of a screw and the pedal is the screw driver). Seems like something got stuck. The issue seem to be coming from the back of bike. When I pedal backwards you can see the chain does not spin together.

Background: I was given a new wheel from a friend but it did not come with a cassette. I bought a new 3rd party xdr cassette. Hence issue is likelu due to wheels or cassette.

FYI: I rode it for ~300km without issues. I did not detect any signs, but it suddenly seized up on me today.

Can anyone help identify the potential issues and advise me on how to resolve it?

Can you freely rotate the cassette by hand? Is the upper jockey wheel maybe binding up. Try messing with the components one by one instead of a whole.

  2. Maybe a stuck link. Check all the links to make sure none are bent. Also make sure the chain is running through the RD properly.

Where has your battery gone ? Is the bike ok if you lift the wheel and pedal forward?

It might be just that the mech and sprocket aren’t aligned so it’s not wanting to go backwards.

  4. Umm. where’s the batt? Backpedaling depending on chainline can get wonky in the highest gear. Cant diagnose w/out actually pedaling the bike (and with batt to shift gears).

  5. My bet is a missing, incorrect, or crushed spacer between the freehub body and the hub. Or perhaps the wrong end cap. Debris is unlikely.
