I got myself a new set of slick tyres (Continental Contact Speed 26" wire tyres). After replacing the old tyres, I noticed a very strange wobble on the rear tyre that makes the whole bike shake like crazy! I spent the last four hours trying to figure out the cause. I put the old tyre back, and everything was fine, so the wobble is not from the rim. I massaged the tyre to let it seat properly and used soapy water, but it didn’t help. I put the other new tyre on the rear, and it had the same wobble. Then I suspected the tyres might be damaged because they were delivered to me in a box, wrapped and twisted like the number eight (8). Could this be the cause?

Gotta balance those puppies!
Edit: I think it’s hilarious that I’m getting down voted. While I don’t think it’s necessary to balance the tires on an older mountain bike, people absolutely balance their bike tires and it would fix this problem.
Balance the wheel with the new tire. Lay it on the axle. Add lead or tungsten tape to the top of the rim until the wheel balances on the axle.
Does it vibrate noticeably when you’re actually riding? I’ve found that minor imbalances get way exaggerated when the bike is up on a stand, this looks pretty normal to me
The wobble is caused by the extra weight of the valve, perfectly normal, no need for concern
Have you tried pumping them up to the max pressure?
She’s like my dog on the leash. She just wants to go for a ride real bad.
If you really reef on a tire putting it on, you can damage the sidewall and create a wobble.
Just out of balance which is normal
A very normal wobble
Make sure the tire bead is seated properly/evenly all the way around the rim. I’ve had that issue numerous times with new rubber.
Edit: sorry, I should have read your entire text.
it is a pain, remove the rear tire from the rim and swap the new front and rear tire, and compare the wobble. or did you try that already?
Got a reflector on that wheel? If so remove it, or try swapping its location.
Experienced this on both maxxis and continental tires, it wobbles so bad on a stand but when I ride it, I never notice any imbalance especially when I ride with a rack and pannier on the back.
Just ride the bike. I mean, if you haven’t ridden it and all this is based on it being in a stand, you have no idea if there is anything actually wrong.
It’s the same for a car that has been sitting for a few weeks. It’s flat spotting in car terms. Yours was caused by the shipping method.
