Any changes i could make or particularly nice towns/Villages etc? Good war sights or museums?

Current plan so far is something like:

  • Ijmuiden – Haarlem
  • Around Amsterdam to Weesp
  • Follow the Vecht to Utrecht
  • Let De Stigterpad path through the Utrechtse Heuvelrug (anyone done this? Is it doable/fun on 35mm tyres with panniers?)
  • Across Hoge De Veluwe to Zutphen
  • Up a bit of LF3 to Deventer

Other option might be to head South from Hoge De Veluwe onto the Operation Market Garden route towards Nijmegen then Den Bosch.

  1. Both Zutphen (was born there) and Deventer (lived there) are stunning city centers with buildings dating back to the medieval and Hanseatic times.

When in Zutphen, see if you can visit De Librije, a stunning 16th century early library.

You pass already through some decent towns and to ‘upgrade’ you’ll miss out on the water line defense works. So not sure that would be much of an improvement if you’re into war related sights. Not a town, but you might opt for a small detour to visit the Haar castle

Should be fine, though not sealed, it is improved.

If you are interested in war sights/museums that might be a good choice. Arnhem is of course famous for its bridge and role in ww2, Den Bosch has route linie 1629 themed around the 80 year war and in particular the siege on Den Bosch.

  3. Let de Stigterpath is very doable with panniers. Really friendly gravel.

If you’re looking for war sights, consider extending to the Grebbeberg and/or Arnhem (Oosterbeek museum about Market Garden), or east of Utrecht to the national military museum at Soesterberg.

Wondering why you choose a route south of Amsterdam towards Weesp, and not directly through Amsterdam? Area around Schiphol is filled with noisy planes and a lot of industrial sprawl.
