Hello all, I am currently swapping out all the cables on my Argon18 E117 which I purchased second hand. While it was apart, I decided to look for a pair of internal rattles. The first was a bolt found and retrieved from the downtube. (Who just leaves an M5 in a downtube??). The second is a even more confusing. It appears to be within the chainstay tube on the drive side. I don’t hear the rattle while I ride but do hear it when the bike is tilted up or down. Something rattles from one end to the other but makes no rattle if I move it vertically up and down. I have two access points, both of which are too small for my inspection camera. Curious if anyone has advice or experience with a similar issue. Being a second hand bike, I have found and fixed several confusing things but I’m at a loss for how something gets in there….or out.

This is a complete Hail Mary but have you tried a really strong neodymium magnet? If it’s metal you’ll be able to move it.

  2. Have you tried sticking a magnet to the chainstay to see if whatever is in there is magnetic? If so, then you might be able to fish it out with a magnet on the end of a cable or something.
