There’s nothing but a spring in there. It’s not functional or serviceable suspension.
It’s a rigid fork now. This is not worth your time and trouble, not even to learn on.
The reason you are getting dismissive responses is because of an open secret in the world of bikes: there are lots of things that look like bikes, but they are in fact divided into actual bikes, that you typically find in bike shops, and Bicycle Shaped Objects, which you find at places like Canadian Tire stores, where your bike came from.
Bicycle shaped objects are not built like actual bikes, but instead are cobbled together as cheaply as possible in a way that makes them look like bikes to ignorant buyers. But they are not. Inside that fork is nothing that is meant to be serviced or repaired, because it was really never meant to work in the first place. It was just meant to look like a bicycle suspension fork so someone would mistakenly buy it.
Sorry, but it’s the truth.
Scrap it, get a decent used bike not to be confused with a bike shaped item. These are not designed to repair, they’re disposable.
All of the above, plus springs under compression are incredibly dangerous. If you don’t know what you’re doing you could get seriously hurt. Don’t bother.
Chalk this up to a learning experience, which means, you learned not to buy crappy “bikes” from Canadian Tire.
If you want advice on how to choose a better bike, you’re in the right place.
It’s either a 5mm or 6mm hex key. I saw it from youtube. You can watch youtube videos from India where they repair (disassemble, clean, grease and reassemble) even the cheapest forks.
Some privileged people commenting about what others can’t afford. Reddit is full of privileged toxic people who never encountered hardship in their lives.
Some seriously entitled responses on here….probaby sounds pretty harsh, but they’re only trying ot help. Honestly those forks….and the entire bike for that matter were never meant to be maintained. They were designed and built to be bought by unsuspecting customers for $150, riden a few times and hopefully forgotten about. We sound entitled, but even the cheapest ” bike shop bike” is a fully serviceable machine, that can last a century and 1 million miles if cared for….true facts… We would help you with your question, but the answer is that it was made to be disposed of, so there’s no logical/efficient way to fix it. Good luck with your journey tho!
