Hey all. Need some help. Complete beginner to MTB and won’t be doing anything hardcore as I’m old Lol (in my 40s). My Giant Anthem X3 was stolen so now I’m looking for a used bike to ride on trails. Came across this 2013 Yeti SB66 140 27.5” bike for $900.

Is it worth buying an old bike like this or should I look for something newer. Not sure how far tech has come on bikes since a decade ago. But I’m sure it’s a lot.

The shocks will likely need to be rebuilt or serviced which can be costly so take that into account. I moved to an ebike but I’m almost 60 and also went to 29” wheels which roll over just about anything. I’m now riding terrain that I wouldn’t have touched in my 30s. The newer tech does impact my riding in a good way.

  2. That seems like a lot for a 12 year old bike. I’m only asking $1200 for my 2021 Giant Trance X 2 on FB.

Offer them 500. Probably gonna need a ton of work. Shocks, drivetrain, brake pads etc etc. not to mention that shit almost 13 years old.

  4. For $300 I would consider it. But for $900 you can find a lot better bike than that. As others have pointed out, you don’t know the maintenance and condition of the parts.

All things you have to consider that might need maintenance or replacement that come to mind:

Pivot & wheel bearings, shock, fork, chain, bottom bracket, headset bearings, cassette, ????

Not sure what drivetrain is in it, but you’ll be limited to 1×10 at most if you want a 1x drivetrain.

  5. It’s good that it has an aluminum rear triangle. The carbon version was prone to snapping. Those were great riding, snappy bikes.
