I've been MTBing for a couple of months and went for a big feature. Unfortunately made some mistakes and went OTB. Besides the obvious of riding something within my skill level and not squeezing the front break as if my life depends on it while dropping off… What could I improve during the drop? Body position? Speed? Angle?

I would angle more to stay on the boards/path…usually a little more speed is going to actually help you
Dropper post will enable you to shift you weight back.
You didn’t look confident, I would work on the basics on less slippery feature.
Learning how to crash/bail safely is actually a pretty good skill to practice in a safe environment. You got some nice soft grass there. Seth Bike Hacks/Berm Creek did a video many years ago when he was still in FL showing some techniques.
Lmao dialing it falling on ur face

Might want to air up those forks. They fully compressed at the bottom of the ramp but didn’t rebound at all.
Your OTB technique looks pretty dialed. You’re made nice contact of crotch to stem, braced the bars with both legs, pivoting around the bars effectively, then transitioned to the Superman pose to finish the OTB maneuver. One pointer would be to use caution reaching arms out to brace your fall – wrist injury is a common result of that technique. The preferred technique is a tuck-and-roll maneuver, using caution not to apply too much down force on the shoulder which risks clavicle injury.
We’ve all been there, bud. Keep on truckin!
And that kids is why telling people to ‘hop’ of drops is in 99% of the cases a bad advice.
Anyway, don’t move forward on a drop, move slightly backwards (you where too far front and then moved mostly up and only a little bit backwards, pushing your bike even more downwards + when you go over such a small drop don’t stress it with being aggressively moving) when your front wheel leaves the edge of the drop. However this one is so small you can just roll down from it.
Would suggest you’ll start with the drops more to the left on that little park. They don’t have wooden features before and after so they are not leading to such nasty crashes that quickly.
Funny to see Bergschenhoek around here. Say high when you see someone on an orange Fuel EX or black hardtail with a huge Slack fork, from January onwards im cleared to mountainbike again.
When will they put an airbag right on the stem??
Get your weight back more instead of straight up. They mention the fork pressure. Have that checked.
Bonus points for the nut crunch!
What is that monolith in the background?
Were you trying to stay on the wood ramp?
If so, be conscious of your eyes. The bike will naturally go where you are looking.
It’s called target fixation.
I can’t give advice on technique but most beginners should practice avoiding target fixation.
Bro there’s a great MTB club that has weekly training sessions right there on the hill, get in on it!
Rapped the bar properly 😂
You looked to the side, didn’t you? Lol. You have to look where you want to go
You look deeply uncomfortable on the bike. I would recommend learning to ride a bike before trying to do advanced features.
More speed will add to the OTB action. 🤣
that was funny, reminds me of all fall from this guy in a group.
Honestly this is beginner stuff. If you want to get into advanced OTB you need to be trying to get into a full scorpion and really launching the bike over your back. I have heard clipless is getting popular for the extra oomph on the bike throw.
At the end of the day – if your dentist isn’t finding dirt, are you really going OTB?
Good job using your body to protect the bike from hitting the ground too hard.
I’m not sure how long you’ve been working at it – but it looked great from here.
