My 2018 (?) Rocky Mountain Blizzard’s bottom bracket has become crunchy and very stiff. I’ve decided to buy a new BB AND BB tool and would like some help to ensure I get the right items. This will be my first time working on a BB.
I’ve seen online the shimano MT800 BB recommended as a replacement. I’ve also seen the MT501 appears to have the same specs, Is this just a cheaper version?
I’m also having trouble finding which tool would fit, and knowing if it will fit on both: the original “Rocky Mountain Sealed – shimano compatible” BB which I need to remove as well as the new one.
Any help is much appreciated.

I believe MT800 is press fit, while MT801 is for threaded bottom brackets.
MT501 is Deore level, while MT801 is XT. They are compatible.
Should be a standard 16 notch bsa tool
BBT 69.4 is the one I’ve used
Yes it’s the same 16-notch tool for take outsies and put insies. Park Tool BBT-9, but there are less expensive brand options. When installing the new BB put a scrap of plastic wrap or plastic bag over the notches, between the BB and the tool, to prevent tool marks.
I use the Pedro’s 16 notch BB tool. Lezyne is another good one. As for bottom bracket, I prefer RaceFace.
