Let me show you what it’s like to explore the Palace of Versailles in France all on your own. Now, the way we did this was by staying at the hotel at the Palace of Versailles because as part of your stay, you get a private tour of the palace after it’s been closed to the public. So, shortly after afternoon tea, we got picked up by a concierge and walked over to the entrance where we were introduced to a guide who would take us around the palace. Now, they have two ways of doing this. One is to visit the king’s part of the palace, and the second is to visit the queen, Maria Antonet’s part of the palace. It alternates from day to day. So if you want to do both privately, you need to stay for at least two nights. On our first night, we got to see Marian Twinet’s part of the palace, which in our opinion, after seeing both is a lot more exciting. As part of this tour, you get to see the private residence of Marinette, too, which is not open to the public. You even get to step behind her bedroom into a private room. Before that private residence tour though, you do the part that most people are excited by, visiting the Hall of Mirrors. That place is so incredible and it’s almost always jam-packed during the open hours. So, it’s a bit surreal to have all of this to yourself. Then, when you’re done, you get picked up by the concierge and escorted back in time for the king’s feast, which is created by Alan Dukass, a French chef with 21 Michelin stars. And it is such an amazing meal.
