why does the first shell go into the side but other shells at the bottom good question let me show you a shotgun like this can be loaded a couple different ways you can load it through the side like this person’s asking all you do is drop in your shell on the side there now you have one in the chamber you can also load a shotgun through the bottom take a shell and go in the bottom just like that and then when you’re done put it off safety and have fun

  1. Better answer… because you can't load multiple shells into the chamber, so, the first shell gets loaded into the chamber, and the rest get loaded into the magazine tube.

  2. that didn't really answer the question he asked. he asked why it was the case.

in short, the ejection port on the right side also acts as a direct path to your chamber, so when you load a shell in from the side, it goes straight there.
loading below the receiver leads shells to the built-in tube magazine, which is where subsequent shells are pulled from each time the action is racked.

by opening the action and inserting one shell from the side, you are able to immediately have that round in the chamber. then, when you send the pump/bolt to the front, you can fully load your magazine.

you could load solely from the bottom, but you would have to pump the shotgun afterwards in order to actually have a shell in the chamber. this shell comes out of your tube magazine, which means that your weapon has one less shell in it than it could if you did it the other way.

  3. If you load the from the side first, you will have one in the chamber and you also don't need to pump it. If you load it from the loading port first you will have to cycle it and you will be down one round.

  4. It's called "Ghost Loading"
Basically it's putting a shell in the chamber before (or after) filling the internal magazine (where the shells are when they go in the bottom).
So then you have however many shells the shotgun usually holds, plus 1 in the chamber.

  5. You put one shell in the side to have a round already chambered, if you completely load the shotgun from the bottom you would need to cycle it to bring a round into the chamber

  6. It’s so when you run empty you throw one in the chamber and you have one to go. So during the process of reloading if someone tries to come at you then you don’t have to pump and shoot

  7. Why didn't you explain that the first shell is "loaded" while the rest go into the "magazine tube" which is where the spare shells rest until the action is raked* back and a new one is loaded?

  8. They put it on the top to have an extra round because the magazine can only hold a certain amount of bullets or try to see shells when that’s full. They some people like to put one on top so they have one extra.
