The freehub probably needs a good clean and lube. It sounds noisy and its dragging that much its turning the crank.

60 years ago one would take the freewheel apart and replace the pawls and springs. I suspect now people just fit new.

I’ve just re-checked and it’s stopped happening. Should I still get back in touch with the mechanic?

Does it happen in all spots on the cassette it just the low/easiest? The spoke protector could be snagging a little every and dragging forward a little

I think some amount of that is normal

but to me a good bike shop could ‘service’ that hub for 25-35$.

Do you hose down your bike?
I ask because a shop pointed out to me that hosing it down can cause dirt to creep into those bearings

  6. If you go down a hill without paddling and hear a godawful sound+vibrations it is a sign of freehub wear, needs to be serviced/replace lube

It could also be a loose cassette
