I combined some Topeak MTX 2.0 rails and bags with a modified Pelican case I can remove the whole top from. The case is hardshell and waterproof to protect my laptop and sensitive electronics. A second rail has been mounted to the top so I can still attach my bag with or without the pelican case. Removing the top of the case leaves me with a reasonable size tray I can strap things down to. i have also attached a mount for my radar to the case and there is still clearance to mount side-rear panniers if necessary.

Keeping things dry when riding through snow and wet roads has lead me to this. Waterprbags keep things inside dry, but road spray would have them wet, even when its not raining. My laptop was always to big to fit in a bag that was compatible with the MTX 2.0 system, and having all the weight on one side is fine while moving. But once you stop and take your weight off, it wants to roll over. A lot of the time, if you grab the handle, it just rotates the front wheel, then the rear will move forward and just rotate the whole bike in front of you as you awkwardly try to keep it from falling on top of your bag.

There are plenty of other solutions to solve all of those issues, but I had what I needed to do this, and so I did.

  1. Interesting !
I tend to just carry everything in my backpack, while you obviously strap everything to your bike – I’m curious and intrigued now, so thank you for posting this
