The most shocking and controversial moments in recent Tour de France history — a female spectator’s sign that triggered a massive crash, causing nearly $500,000 in damage and injuring multiple cyclists. The woman reportedly shouted out her grandparents’ names on the sign. After the chaos she caused, she fled the scene — only to turn herself in to authorities four days later. Despite the severity of the incident, she refused to appear on camera or reveal her identity, fearing backlash and hate on social media.

This woman just caused the biggest crash in Tour to France’s history because during the 2021 race, a middle-aged woman wanted to shout her grandparents out on TV, so she decided to hold a sign near the road, which caused a chain reaction no one expected. The biker she hit was German writer Tony Martin, and immediately after he fell, dozens of other bikers began swerving off the track and into the audience. The crash injured multiple bikers and caused almost half a million dollars worth of damage, as each bike cost upwards of 15 to 20 grand. The woman fled the scene instantly and turned herself in to the police after 4 days, refusing to announce her name or appear on camera as she feared hate on social media.
