See photo. This is the thin layer of crush metal washer that’s right under the lockring of my SRAM apex 12s cassette.
After taking the cassette off for clean/lube a couple times it simply broke. So now I’m riding without it.
Questions:

How important is this piece? I did research online but saw mixed opinions. Want to hear practical opinions from riders here. I did torque my lockring to 40nm though.

If I need a new one, where can I buy it?

It helps get my cassette tight as shit. go to your local bicycle shop you’ll probably find one on the floor they can give you.
I have several cassettes installed without the crush washer under the lockring. No noticeable difference. As long as the lockring gets to 40Nm, it shouldn’t loosen.
