First ride was this morning and it was fantastic till it wasn’t! Bike felt good, this is my first time on any type of bike with drop bars. Well last five miles to get, I’m rolling in the bike lane on the road. There was a group of people standing in the grass, off the bike lane, they decided they rather walk in the bike lane then the perfectly smooth sidewalk. They cut out in front of me, I had my hands on the droppers for the first time, boom I hit the ground. I felt a bad pain in my wrist, blood running down the leg. Chain popped off the front detailer. I had to ride the last 5 or so miles home.

The left side lever took a hit and shifted nothing else happened to the bike that I know of yet. I have road rash on my knee and think I broke my wrist. In the waiting room to get an X-ray.

  2. Ufff what terrible luck. The levers are usually not overly-tight on the bars so that they will shift position in a crash rather than break. You can move it back into place and retighten without a problem.

I have a relatively new road bike and had a really dumb fall in a construction area with metal plates and hoses and electrical cables and stuff and I was just not careful enough… now I have scratched up shifters as well. It’s a bit of a right of passage and the bike will work the same.

Awesome bike, and one I’m hoping I might pick up this season.

Hope the wrist is not broken, and that you have a speedy recovery whatever the injury is. Hope the rest of your rides are injury free!

  4. Damn OP, I hope you recover quickly!

To people in this community: Are straight bars safer than drop bars?

I’m going to buy my first gravel bike sometime in the next few months and it’s been hard to choose which type of bar to go with.
