Just picked up BMX this year after coming from a couple years of MTB. I’m 6’3”, 230lb so I wanted a bigger frame. I was lucky enough to find this 24” DK Cygnus on the market for a good deal and added some minor parts. It’s been a blast on the pump track and beginner jump lines while learning. Definitely chillin but it would be cool to learn some basic tricks.

Bro I met at the park was nice enough to let me take a lap on his 22” ATF build and it’s way more nimble and responsive. Haven’t had any luck finding a used 22” and heard they sell out and aren’t easy to find so do I just bite the bullet and get the FIT Series or hold out and keep learning on the 24”?

Used market is so good for 20” I’d try to find something with longer geometry for a tall guy and try it out. The difference 20-22 is much less noticeable than I expected.

I think 22’s are sweet, but they are just too rare for casual used market in my area.

But keep the 24 for ripping the pump track/cruising town

  2. If you want to learn tricks, there’s probably no reason to stay on the 24″. 22 will be better for that. I’ve got WTP Audio and it’s pretty good.

  3. Fyi- 22” Atf’s come in 2 sizes : 21.65 or 22+Tt .
The shorter version is V playful for a 22!
May pay to check the Audio though. Has a Roomier cockpit! 21.9 Tt.
The bb’s are pretty high on both.

22″ wheel all the way. Its shorter than 24″ and the stand over is more like a 20″. Perfect for pump track, dirt jumps and fun for street. 22″ Tubes, tires and wheel available online. There’s no reason not to buy and try…if you dont like it sell it.

  5. I would check the used market more. When I was looking there were 4 that were close enough to go look at. I ended up with a wtp audio and I’m glad I did. Ebay is worth checking out too there were some local pickup bikes and a few with shipping that was still a reasonable price.

    Why not!?
I love my 24″ Colony Eclipse for cruising and Kink Downside for fooling around.
Can’t go wrong with two BMX bikes, if you have somewhere to store them.

Was in a somewhat similar situation, just had to be really patient waiting to find a used 22″. Had to pay a bit more than I wanted but eventually did snag one for significantly less than new.

When I found my way back to BMX I started with a 26” Haro Steel Reserve dirt jumper, eventually traded it for a Cygnus and loved that bike. I eventually moved on to 22s, and love the 22” wheel bike. I’d think at your size you’ll want something with a 22” long top tube. My Cygnus was around 21.6 or so, and if that’s the same as your Cygnus I’d think it would feel cramped for you? I’m 6-01 and 190 and currently ride a 22 with a 21.7 top tube and I think it feels perfect. Keep an eye out on Marketplace because 22s do show up.
