Hey everyone,
I recently picked up Shimano S-Phyres as my second pair of cycling shoes. The length feels perfect, but my middle toe joints feel very squished — after taking the shoes off, the area is red and I feel immediate relief.
I’m unsure what to do. If I go up a size, the length will likely be too long, but keeping this size feels uncomfortable volume-wise.
For reference:
• My normal sneaker size is US 10
• The S-Phyres I bought are US 9.5
Here’s a photo of my foot next to the shoes for context. Any advice on fit or solutions would be appreciated!

Maybe not turn the front boa too tight?
Is yours the wide version?
You look like a wide footed person, unfortunately the S-Phyres are known for being better for narrow / normal feet
Dude those are never going to fit you. They are quite narrow shoes and you have wide feet. I couldn’t not get on with them and sold them.
Even the wide version isn’t wide. Same bottom sole shape, more volume on top.
Maybe it’s not the fit for you?
Bont and Lake are more likely for wider feet…
Looks like fashion isn’t going to prevail over common sense. Get yourself a pair of Lake’s or something with boats like these.
As someone with boats like these myself Lake is the best. Or if OP has that kind of bag he can go for the Bonts as well
I had a pair of these shoes after switching from Fizik shoes for years. After a few long rides, I noticed the ball of my foot started having some strange feeling and I think I was starting to develop mortons neuroma because the toe box was too tight. I went back to Fizik shoes and no more issues.
Fizik Wide should fit you well. I tried Lakes too but Fizik fit me way better and my feet look a bit like yours.
Get some Fizik or Specialized wide models
They are nice shoes, but it looks like your feet are wider than mine and I found them too narrow on the big toe.
I can really recommend going to a store to try different models on.
I went to the store WANTING to buy the S-Phyre and got home with a much cheaper shoe.
I tried Scott, Shimano, DMT, S-works and Specialized. Took forever, and I had my 2yo with me. First of all – the right size was the same as my regular shoe size for me. Second, only S-Works and Specialized felt comfortable. I ended up getting the Specialized Torch 3.0, as I didn’t like the stiffness on the heel in the premium S-Works models.
The internet is going to recommend Lake and Bont, but I can’t speak to those. Though I would go to a store that sells Lake next time personally.
If you are interested in wide fit shoes, look at strong feet athletics. I’ve gone through multiple companies, and SFA had the widest fit.
You need lake wide models sir
Lake shoes sorted my issues out, highly recommend them.
Try the 2025 specialized ares 2 or S-Works Torch (not torch 3.0!!!)
They come with a „normal“ shaped toebox. Was the gamechanger for me.
Shimanos won’t fit you, even in size 10 or 11. you have normal to wide feet that are not narrow.
