Sun rims are generally solid👍 sometimes pinned at the seem rather than welded, so that’s something to look out for. Pinned are usually fine for most daily riders.

I have these on my commuter, they’re Rhyno Lites. Pretty much bombproof.
Mine are laced to some cheap Shimano t610 hubs with some straight gauge 2mm spokes. You could probably drop an elephant on them and they would keep rolling.
I mean absolutely not with the elephant thing, but they’re great, durable rims, albeit not particularly light.
Seems sorta odd seeing them laced to Chris King hubs, it’s like putting racing slicks on a Camry, but I won’t judge.

As borat would say… “very nice”

The rims have a machined braking surface (ABT) considered an advanced feature, similar to Mavic SUP where they are welded at the seam and then machined over to create a prepared braking surface. These are hand built rims with a Chris King hub. The King hub was one of the original non-pawl (micro ratchet ring) designs. I had one, very light but not that durable especially if the ratchet surface got contaminated. These are pretty old, I would say 25 years.

Good for the BMX track too. Before carbon everything took over.

Rhyno Lites are awesome. Ran them on my trail bike for years. Couldn’t wreck them if you tried!

I have 2 sets of them on my 26er city bikes and they’re solid. Laced to some bombproof deore hubs and I haven’t thought about them in 3 years of city cycling

Could be one of the best rims, pretty much unbreakable of built right. I still have these on my old trail bike. Wish they still made em

Rhyno lites rule! I weigh over 200 lbs and have never had to true them over 20 years of abuse— jumping, commuting, touring, trail riding, etc. highly recommend keeping them.

Chris King and rhyno lites, classic combination for old school trials riders! I still have 2 of these rear wheels i built in the late 90s/ early 2000s and they are both going strong.

Rhyno lites were the “all mountain” or trail standard back in the day. I ran Rhyno XL on my trail bike. They’ve been surpassed by better MTB rims and taller road rims, but they should hold up great and were a high quality rim at the very least. Looks like a classic wheelset from the mid 90s, maybe 1996 or 97.

These came off a Trek Y frame … I saw the hubs, cranks ( Race Face Forged Triple ), XT v brakes, race face headset.
Rhyno Lites are decent rims, especially if you have V-brakes or cantis. I just replaced a set after 10+ years of use. The sides were about done. Look at the curve where the rim meets the pink tool; it’s concave. With a couple of new spokes, these rims are ready as a backup set.
Got a Rhinolite rim laced to a Shimano Alfine hub on my weird bike. Reasonably priced reliable rim. That’s a sick hub.

They’re probably the strongest old school rims you can get.
Probably modern dt swiss deep dishes are stronger, but don’t have the cool factor.
I build a set of rhino lite xl 700c on 105 hubs for my gravel bike. Not too heavy but super strong.

The hubs will last through several rims. They are awesome. King will service them. Check out Chris King website. They repaired a bottom bracket that I had damaged when servicing. They did not charge me for the repair.

That’s a Chris King on a Sun Rhyno Lite. I can’t think of a stronger rim brake wheel set.
