  1. As someone who’s not particularly a natural at building things, I’ve built several wheels following the guide on Sheldon’s site, and they’ve come out great. If you want bombproof, custom is really the way to go, and doing it yourself makes it feasible especially if you get spokes on eBay.

    These are pretty tough and budget friendly. These aren’t light. Wheels are hard to find tough, light and budget friendly.

    For 26 inch wheels I go with the Cliffhangers or the WEI DM30 Weimanns. I’ve bought from Ebay and Velomine. Although like you mentioned, Velomine has been out for awhile.

    Check out sta-tru tr25 custom wheels from bicycle wheel warehouse. Good tubeless solid rims (and not heavy), good prices on their builds
